Its winter, that’s for sure and the one thing I love about winter is the warm evening staying inside by the fire, the dark night skies and the sense that there is nothing to do except stay indoors. I feel like the winter time is when I do my best work. Why is this? Because I feel like I have a lot more time to focus on the very time consuming aspects of learning my craft. I like to journal, I like reviewing charts and analysis and I just like spending time learning new things about the markets and there is no better time to do it than when it’s dark outside and yet the time is 6pm, the kids go to bed earlier and a cup of coffee and some classical music sets the stage for my efforts.
Try to think along the same lines as this because I feel that when I really focus on my work during these long winter nights, I have accumulated more knowledge than at any other time during the year. It may sound funny, but it truly is how I feel about it. What else is there to do in the winter anyways? Can’t garden, cut grass, and hang out outside most of the day, we are dealing with minus temperatures here, so cold that at times your nose hairs freeze together.
Nevertheless, you have to find your moment, that time where you feel you can apply 100% of yourself to your studies. It may be first thing in the morning or like me, late in the evenings, whatever it is, find that moment and make it yours and focus your energies on building your trading knowledge. You will be surprised how quickly your understanding will compound!
